Where does the name O Balanço Come from?

We believe that the arts and movement are essential to vibrant communities and to a joyous life. All humans deserve access spaces where they can sing, sweat and create together. O Balanço translates to “The Balance” in Portuguese, the native language of our Brazilian Founder, Pião Silveira. We strive to restore natural balance and empowerment through community-centered movement and arts. While our organization supports art forms of all kinds, our name is an homage to the roots of our organization, and the art form that originally brought our founding board together - Capoeira.
